The Hug
Lottie was staring at the razor blade in her hand. There were already so many cuts on her arm that one more wouldn’t be that much of a difference. But this one was going to be the last. Her mother would never understand why she was going to do this, she never understood anything Lottie did. Lottie went to Holy Angels Catholic High School and she used to believe in God until she became depressed. She started having these raging mood swings where she would be happy one moment and depressed the next. She got angry at God for leaving her. Lottie started distancing herself from her friends and she started to say it was them who didn’t want to be her friend. She didn’t turn to drugs or alcohol because she had promised herself before she started high school that she would never do that to herself because she saw what it had done to her sister, who was now married to a abusive husband with three children and she’s a alcoholic or that was the last she had heard. Lottie hadn’t seen or heard from her sister in 7 years. But none of that matter now, all Lottie wanted was to escape this pain forever. She took a deep breath and pulled the blade across her wrist. Then as she was sitting on the bathroom floor, Lottie heard the door open.
“Mom, Lottie?”
“Grandma, Auntie Lottie?”
It was her sister and her two nephews and niece. She tried to call out to Rachel but she couldn’t speak her eyes lids felt so heavy. She just needed to lie down. The moment she laid her head on the tiled floor she slided into unconciousness…
